September 2020 - Iceland Glacier Tongue

About the Image(s)

This glacier tongue in Iceland looks fairly close, but vast space can be deceiving! The top of the glacier was about 2 miles away. I was really angry at myself because this was my first drone flight outside of the United States. I had my maximum altitude at the US default limit of 400 feet. Well, I get out at side of the glacier, mind you a couple miles away, to learn that my altitude limit was going to prevent me from cresting the top of the glacier. You can see if you watch the horizon shortly before the end that the “reveal” shot would have been awesome. It’s what I get for being a novice. Wasn’t enough battery life in this cold environment to do the shot over

No VLOS limit in Iceland? That be as it may, I would have scared ...less to fly my drone that far away. :-)

From a photographic viewpoint, I cannot offer any useful critique, except to say that your video is what I an hoping to accomplish one day.   Posted: 09/06/2020 18:36:30

Great video Tony, you need to get some extra batteries!!! Fascinating to see the top of the glacier, and the crevices running thru it. I would love to see the straight down view, probably a great abstract view.

And very scary to send the drone that far away... even though that's the beauty of the drone, it can go places you can't get to. As long as you can get it back!   Posted: 09/23/2020 11:37:19
