May 2020 - Last Sunset

About the Image(s)

Started out as a nice day of drone shooting... sunset was beautiful, and I was moving the drone down to land with the sunset in view... then crash. Landed in the water and never saw Sparky again. Did not get the video from the SD card, only the cached video from the app. Ugh...
Lesson learned... pay attention to the landing and not the sunset.
The still is a frame grab from the video... not a lot of detail.

Oh no! Tragic story. I hope this means you are not out of the drone business? Flying over water makes me nervous as all hell, yet like a moth to a flame, I am constantly attracted to subjects involving water.
Just a fantastic sky and reflection into the water. The curve of the shore and tree line is just perfect.
So some constructive thoughts on an already great image:
1. clone out the hi voltage tower.
2. See the little splash of reflection in the bottom left corner? Burn it out, don't let anyone's eye get distracted down there.

Love the image!   Posted: 05/01/2020 11:56:35

Sorry to hear you lost Sparky, that is bad luck. I really like your image, a great sunset with a strong foreground. I agree with Tony about the tower, I too think that it is distracting.   Posted: 05/07/2020 15:57:47

I just watched your video again. And again I had a sense of anticipation as the words Landing were announced and then sickening sound of your drone splashing down.   Posted: 05/22/2020 08:40:46

Thanks everyone, I did lose that Sparky... but I bought another one right away. I am still gutted about losing the images on the SD card. But since I had some of the images and videos on the app, it's not so bad. I was planning on going back there this year....but those plans were canceled of course. Maybe 2021! It really wasn't as dark as it seems. I walked around for hours after looking in the water before it got too dark. And it was operator error that crashed. I should have grabbed Sparky out of the air, but I tried to land him on the bridge and hit the railing. 50/50 chance that it went into the water or onto the bridge. Ugh.   Posted: 05/25/2020 10:09:51
