December 2020 - River Walk

About the Image(s)

This video was shot along the River Walk of the Fox River in Waukesha Wisconsin, USA. The river has been taken over by Blue Green Algae. Blue Green Algae isn’t really algae at all. It’s Cyanobacter, a class of bacteria in many shapes and sizes that, like other organisms with chlorophyll, produces its energy from sunlight. Cyanobacter (CB) is among the oldest of all living organisms on this planet and common almost everywhere in the world.

Public water pollution control utilities throughout our Fox River watershed have already spent hundreds of millions of dollars reducing nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorous discharged to our Fox and its tributaries. The agricultural community, also a major source of nutrients, has been slower to respond but they are coming along as best practices on the farm for nutrient control are being developed and employed.

Dam removal certainly seems like a promising way to reduce the potential for Blue Green Algae in our Fox River. Removing dams will cool the water by increasing turbulence over longer stretches of the river and reducing the time and sunlight exposure necessary for BG’s (and other algae) to bloom.

It would be a shame if we had to lose this dam, but it may be the only way to save the river.

Dick,
1. Nice to know the detailed knowledge about Blue Green Algae
2. Geese at opening are showing up more vibrant along the river side
3. Camera brings audience to see the most attractive points such as fountain, falls and water feature
4. (3:20-3:26) Drone flying over Blue Green Algae, but audience then may expect the closeup for details
5. Enjoyable music matches the scenery
6. Nice to see the director and videographer at the ending   Posted: 11/29/2020 17:41:59

Hi Dick,
A nice scenic video presentation. Learned a lot about these algae from you. Drone flying was one of the most attractive part of presentation. The tourists boarding on the self driven raft or canoe also added to the presentation.
Transition between the scene is smooth. The music selection is also appropriate for the subject.
Good work my friend.
Cheers.

Very good production!Coupled with drone aerial photography, the viewing angle is wider, and the video brings people a pleasant and harmonious feeling!   Posted: 12/04/2020 19:36:53
