January 2020 - Chasing Sea Smoke

About the Image(s)

The photos and video in this iMovie were taken on my Canon 60D using my Canon 24-105mm and 70-200mm on a tripod. I purposely planned on capturing the sunrise on New Year's Day 2019. This day was very cold (-30F) and I realized that there was a ship coming into the Port of Duluth-Superior. The sea smoke was thick as it is formed when very cold air moves over warmer water. Sometimes it looks like a tidal wave! I was able to capture the Tim S. Dool coming into port and arriving in Superior, WI a short drive over the Blatnik Bridge to which you will see the boat passing under. The ice was thick in Superior Bay and several ice-breaking tugs helped the ship to her final destination. The tugs push and maneuver these large cargo ships to their final berth. It was a great day to start the year!

Kathleen,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video, Love it!
1. Video captured under the freezing condition
2. Video and music exactly match the slow-to-fast/quiet-to-joyful rhythm of sunrise scenery
3. Smooth motion footages with tripod
Improvement:
If in editing resize the still photo images to 9:16 ratio to match the video dimension   Posted: 01/17/2020 22:13:38

Kathleen,

I enjoyed your video very much!! I truly wish that you weren't leaving our video group. We have only had the opportunity to view two of your videos and I loved both of them.

This video was very well done and just watching it made me feel cold. As a child, I lived in Superior, and I can very well remember how cold it got.

I really liked the music you used.

VERY NICE, WELL DONE !!

Hi Kathleen,
Thank you for sharing this video. Short but lovely editing. The clips with smokes and ships in between gave a elaborate idea about the subjects. Nicely done. Great work. Loved it. Thanks again.   Posted: 01/30/2020 15:05:25
