December 2019 - Traditional Mask Dancing Festival

About the Image(s)

This video is also created by my iPhone 8s, hand held with no gimbals. As usual this videos were edited by "Adobe Premiere Pro cc" editing software. I have attended one of the Bhutanese religious rituals in Bumthang valley recently. The idea behind my lonely journey is to learn about a new country, their people and their rich forbidden cultures. This was during the "Traditional Mask Dancing Festival" by the Buddhist Monk in Bumthang of Bhutan. This Bumthang Valley, is some where about 350 KM north bound from the capital Thimphu; with a gruesome almost 9 to 10 hours road journey through; the valley's and scary stiff cliffs. We had to cross four of the highest pass to reach this Bumthang Valley. The journey itself was enlightening and an eye opener for me. They used different types of wooden masks that represent animals, fearsome deities, and various manifestations of Guru Rinpoche. I may not completely understood or relate to all the messages that the dance dramas conveyed, but I surely felt enlightened to experience this rich old tradition of Bhutan.

Kamal,
Love your well done video:
1. Very smooth hand held footages
2. Feel like real stage style video (Camera shooting to one direction not moving side to side)
3. Three or four clips with different shooting angles: low middle and high
4. From the sound track footage transitions are hardly recognized
5. Nice to share us with different culture   Posted: 12/19/2019 19:57:15

Dear Peter,
Thank you for your kind input. I appreciate your taking time to give the observations. I wanted to keep the original music of the dance sequence in the video, the poor sound track stayed with the clip as you understand.
Thanks again for your kind words.

Kamal,

What an interesting video, showing the rich and ancient culture of the Bhutanese.

Technically I think you did a nice job with this hand held video. The sound could have been a little better, but using your i-Phone, it would have been hard to capture good clear sound.

Nicely done.   Posted: 12/21/2019 03:13:30

Syed,

I only wish I could hand hold and get as steady video as you - great job! I, too, enjoy seeing the culture of the Bhutanese. What I'm thinking about after reading your prolog is that I would have liked to see what the road journey looked like with valleys and cliffs. Good job.   Posted: 12/30/2019 14:17:59
