Lueneburger Heide Ferns by Dirk-Olaf Leimann, PPSA

December 2020 - Lueneburger Heide Ferns

About the Image(s)

This image was also taken on a walk through the so called Lueneburger Heide as the previous, November Photograph.

Here, the fern was fascinating me. I tried several positions to place the birch and also the foreground and the background.

Note due to the (PSA guidelines) low resolution, some details get lost.

Hi Dirk, initially my thoughts went to similar aesthetics seen in Wynn Bullock (1902-1975) work: he loved the light and texture from these types of vegetation.

Not sure if I like (all) of the dark branch coming across the view, but I like it! It is part of the appeal. Perhaps it can be cropped a bit differently.....

In any case, all or part of it is a must. The heavy contrast works well and (with the diagonal branch I keep questioning) brings a kind of drama to the entire composition.

Well done! :)

Dirk

This image for me is slighly surrealistic. I cannot tell if the areas circled are branches of the tree on the left or are separate trees.

I like the light airy feeling of the foreground, and you have captured the variety of textures in the landscape.

My eye goes the horizontal tree branch which becomes the subject rather than the entire scene. Perhaps another angle might have worked better.   Posted: 12/06/2020 21:44:53

Dirk I love the subject, the ferns and their texture but yes that branch tries to steal the show. If you really wanted to practice your photoshop skills you could try removing the end of that branch up to where it joins the main part (the Y) and the piece going vertically higher up. I love your vision here. The ferns are fabulous.   Posted: 12/10/2020 15:22:51
