October 2020 - Memorials

About the Image(s)

A visit to the WWII memorial on the mall in Washington, DC as the sun set gave me a "blue light" opportunity to shoot across the memorial fountains (in the foreground), down the mall to the just-lit Lincoln memorial. And, to my delight, the sky cooperated with some lovely light. Post was needed to bring up shadows and bring down the Lincoln Memorial lights. The result is as you see here. In America, we are struggling to find our footing and be the "shining city on a hill " for the wold to follow knowing we are, once again, the "good guys". These memorials remind me of what we are at our souls.

My dad was an active WWII vet so this photo is very special. The perfect lighting with the gorgeous sky make this a unigue photo especially of the Lincoln Memorial. Some of lines of the WWII memorial and waterfalls seem a little distracting somehow not being straight / lined up with the Lincoln Memorial . Did you take more photos from different angles to compare? I would love to see one of just the Lincoln Memorial by cropping all the bottom off.

Andrew, overall a very nice photo of the Lincoln Memorial.

One suggestion I would have for an alternate view of this image would be to crop out the fountain to accentuate the Lincoln Memorial.

However, the Blue Hour effect is pretty awesome. Love it!

Thanks for a great photo.   Posted: 10/08/2020 21:36:50

This is a wonderful shot. I like the combination of the two memorials because for a DC-area resident like me, I recognize everything.
It's just a tiny bit not level, but that affects the feel of the image, and it would make a big difference to correct that.   Posted: 10/10/2020 22:08:31

Superb capture Andrew , amazing colors and dynamic range. I see that you have slowed the shutter to get the milky effect to the fountain water. It has come out well , also if this is an handheld shot , kudos to you. Well done.   Posted: 10/11/2020 21:28:03

Beautiful shot. I was going back and forth about the fountain, but decided that it adds to the image. I love how the colors in the sky mimic the lights in the memorial. Also, thanks for your message; much appreciated during these very trying times.   Posted: 10/17/2020 19:15:16
