Just me and my dad by Laurie McShane

October 2020 - Just me and my dad

About the Image(s)

This picture (titled "Just me and my dad") was taken in Santiago, Spain last year, pre-Covid. I have no idea if it has any merit or not, but I liked the little boy, who seemed to be enjoying time with his dad in a grownup world. It was taken with a Canon 5d Mark 4, 1/125 sec, F 5.6, 65mm, and ISO 320.

I would really welcome suggestions and appreciate your taking the time to do so.

You got my heartstrings. Exactly what I think this kind of "street photo" should do. I think you would up the impact (took me a minute to see the dad and me) if you cropped a bit off the bottom. And, if possible the bald sky could use clouds, color, crop, or a bit of burn in so this "bright spot" is less of a visual eye-pull.   Posted: 10/08/2020 20:26:25

I agree with Andrew's suggestions of cropping the bottom to make the dad and child pop out more. It is so sweet how they are holding hands amongst the crowded street. The bright yellow sweatshirt adds to your photo too.   Posted: 10/08/2020 20:47:25

I also agree with Andrew and Kathleen's comments. One more thing I noticed is that the image is leaning to the right. You may want to consider straightening the photo in post processing.   Posted: 10/08/2020 21:23:34

Thanks, Prasad. I do like it!! It's interesting how you made it into a B&W with the exception of the boy. Cool!   Posted: 10/17/2020 18:48:09
