Water fountain fun by Andrew Klein

December 2019 - Water fountain fun

About the Image(s)

It was hot and the fountain spouts coming intermittently out of the ground excited all the kids. The girl in pink, poised to go back in, seemed to say it all. 90mm lens

Hi Andrew, this is a very nice candid shot. The image is very lively and the children's enjoyment of the water tell about the hot day. Seeing individual water drops adds to the image. To even better balance the image, I would crop it to exclude the boy on the right hand side and at the bottom to avoid having the girl's legs cut off at the ankles.
A lovely image Andrew.   Posted: 12/01/2019 01:58:32

I agree with Ruth, and I don't like the girl's feet cut off.

Usually, I don't like the main character's back toward audiences. If doing so, it should be: 1. to show the main character's figure, but apparently, here it is not. 2. in the background there are some interactions with the main character, but here it didn't have. So the background seems separately with the main character.   Posted: 12/01/2019 11:36:05

I see what others are saying about the cropping of her feet but love seeing the feet of the others . Love the splashing water drop effect.   Posted: 12/01/2019 13:14:46

I agree, having her feet inside the frame would have been a bit better, but they are not in the image. I also agree about the crop and have done so, uploading a second version with this done. To me the image is telling that the boys are in the water and she is not. A secondary thought to the basic fun the kids were having.   Posted: 12/01/2019 14:55:30

I enjoy the photo even better after you pointed out that all the boys are in there but she is being a little timid maybe? In this photo all the kids were definitley having fun but she pops right out   Posted: 12/02/2019 04:08:51

To me, this is a very dynamic image, and it's easy to feel the fun that they are having. I love the effect that the water has - it looks very forceful, and intimidating! I would like to see the boy on the right cropped out as well, as long as it didn't impact the little girl's hair. The sun glints off of her shoulder, and adds to the impression of a warm summer day.   Posted: 12/04/2019 14:47:29

Hi Andrew

A very lively image , i would have been inclined to shoot this at slow shutter using ND filter to give it a more surreal feel and soften the water and show movements of kids who are always jumping and moving in a fountain . however you have frozen the moment very well . Apart from what has already been said , i do not have anything more to add. Would love to see some more images if you have tried playing with shutter during this shoot.
With Regards

I totally agree with the recommendation to crop out the figure on the far right. This improves the impact of the image...less is more! Thank you. See the new version, above   Posted: 12/08/2019 10:58:22

Beautiful Photo, lively, colorful and just plain fun. Would be interesting to see at a slower shutter but I kind of feel like that Summer Fun is best shown by Freezing The Moment as was said by Prasad.   Posted: 12/18/2019 17:59:33
