March 2023 - Abandoned

About the Image(s)

Abandoned: was taken in Cripple Creek, Colorado. I saw these two old cars abandoned on the side of the road and thought it made a good photo but not so good for the environment.
I used the Panasonic G9 with the Leica 12-60 mm f2.8-4.0 lens at f8 to get both cars in focus. In Lightroom I added contrast and clarity as the original was a bit washed out and I wanted more detail and colour.

Disgusting what some people will do to our environment!!
Well spotted and it makes a story image. Why are they there, have they crashed and been left, was anyone hurt?
I think the little conifer in the middle shows how nature will succeed if left alone.
For me I would have cropped some of the top off to concentrate on the cars a bit more.
Well done.

Unfortunately, this total disregard for the environment isn't an uncommon sight. I really like the use of the little tree in the foreground to give some scale to the scene. I would crop from the top to give more emphasis to the cars. Good eye.   Posted: 03/01/2023 09:41:47

This scene definitely gives a sense of sadness and despair. The cars are quite old and have been there for sometime, just abandoned! The little tree is a sign of hope that nature will recover. I think this is a powerful shot with a story to tell. Good eye!   Posted: 03/01/2023 20:35:34

I Agree with comments. The only consolation is that little green tree in the foreground. The cars look as if they had collided with each other and have been left there for many decades. I admire your determination to capture it on your lens.   Posted: 03/06/2023 10:00:47

Rose, there are many stories here. I find the vehicles to be too little of the pic, and nothing stands out to me of much interest in the back and foreground. I suggest you get close and find many shots.   Posted: 03/12/2023 20:36:29

I love old rusted cars. I'm not sure if you could have gotten a higher angle so the viewer might see more of the car but that would be nice. Also I'd like to see the cars a bit more saturated, and the top and bottom cropped quite a bit. It would create a panoramic and to me, the cars would be more prominent. I would be able to resist photographing a rusted out car either!   Posted: 03/20/2023 15:39:41

I could not get a higher angle as I was on a small tourist train in an open seating area. I was standing but that is as high as I could go. Thank you for the other suggestions.   Posted: 03/20/2023 16:58:22
