About the Image(s)

I took this picture with my iPhone because it was handy and this scene was changing rapidly! The sun was coming up and I spotted the beautiful sun pillar! I took several photos, but the light was changing quickly. I live right on the Canadian border, and that is Canada in the background ...Sunrise over Canada!
I did just a bit of fine tuning in Snapseed, and cropped the image. For this picture I wanted the sun pillar to be centered.

Well spotted and acting quick to get the shot!! Looks a very cold morning!! I think the way you have cropped the image really works well and centres your eye right onto the important element. You have done well not to have the sun all blown out which can easily happen.
I wonder if you could have cloned out the top of the bush on the right hand side that is above the horizon as I find it a bit distracting? Also lighten the shadows a tad.
Great shot well done.   Posted: 02/01/2021 07:32:54

Wonderfull picture, being on the right spot on the right time really does it! For me the to of the bush gives more depth the picture - not me it can stay.   Posted: 02/01/2021 08:16:41

Janet, it always says something when the viewer sees your picture and says "I wish I was there." I do that here, and what a beautiful scene and you nailed the colors. Those trees are gorgeous, and if it were my picture my scene would be the trees and sun with sky and i would crop off much of the top, making it a horizontal, cropping down to about half way of the vertical red reflection of the sun. Maybe or maybe not, but worth a look.   Posted: 02/04/2021 09:59:30

A "sun pillar!" What an exciting capture. I love to see natural phenomena like this, but this is a new one for me. Thank you for taking us all to see this. I saw a similar image a very long time ago of the shadow of the Matterhorn cast upward against a cloud cover.   Posted: 02/21/2021 23:25:52

What a wonderful capture. A combination of cool and warm tones! I like the bush, it adds an element of foreground interest. I wonder about possibly cropping a bit off the left, which would allow the sun pillar to balance the bush. Regardless, you have captured a fleeting moment - great job.   Posted: 02/22/2021 07:13:13
