St. Anselm Light and Lines by Randall Gusdorf

May 2020 - St. Anselm Light and Lines

About the Image(s)

I took this picture a few weeks ago with a Fuji 50R, 45-100mm lens. It was during the day, and with a bright sun. Not ideal conditions normally, so I decided to seek how the light was playing on the Parish structure. It is a picture of St. Anselm Parish a few miles from my house. I took it to bnw, as I was interested in the impact, and the color version was nice, but lost the vision I seek.

Great abstract image with lovely curves and lines. Changing to B&W I think is the right thing to do as can imagine has more impact than the coloured version.
I do wonder whether it might be improved by lightening the shadow a touch in the main arch to help bring the shape out a bit more? Perhaps clone out the sliver of silver in the bottom right corner? Might just be me but I find the patch of white at edge on left a bit distracting and once seen eye keeps going there!!

Very interesting shot, Randall! I do think black and white was the way to go. I like all the curves and lines and the stark whites and blacks. I find architectural photography interesting, but I struggle to capture an effective shot. I hope you do more of this...very helpful knowing how you captured this!   Posted: 05/12/2020 08:42:11

Nice and interesting abstract, with a mix of arches, blacks, whites and grays. The eye navigates across the image. The lines and curves are a big attraction of this image.   Posted: 05/19/2020 12:25:17
