Painted Lily by Cheryl Dubois

May 2020 - Painted Lily

About the Image(s)

Canon 5D mark iv, 1/200 @ f/11, ISO 100 with 100mm macro lens.
I photographed this indoors with a studio strobe and applied a digital painting technique to the stems and petals for a slight painterly look (especially since some of the petals were bruised!

Lovely lighting and the colours all compliment each other. Emphasis is completely on the flowers and they all look really sharp, well done.
Be interested to know what you have in the background?   Posted: 05/01/2020 16:25:54

I made the background from a large length of cotton fabric purchased from a local craft store before we went on lockdown!

I love this, Cheryl! Flower photography is my favorite! That's a wonderful background! It compliments the flowers so well! What digital painting technique did you use? It is very well done!   Posted: 05/12/2020 08:45:23

I viewed several youtube videos on digital painting, but PIXimperfect had a good one and as I recall he used some Kyle Webster brushes. If I recall I used fairly long strokes and cleaned my brush often!

Cheryl, I love the soft sharp painterly way you render your flowers. the flowers and the green leaves are wonderful. I get a little distracted by the background color, losing the flowers.   Posted: 05/18/2020 07:45:32

Good colorful stilllife image and the lighting too is very complimenting. Nice effect. The backdrop looks a tad bit like an extension of the flowers themselves!   Posted: 05/19/2020 12:27:08
