About the Image(s)

I got my youngest daughter into my studio for a shoot. I used a gray, suede type fabric background and on either side were 2 white v-flats. I used a strobe and bounced it off one of the flats. My first 2 corrections, would be to get the light a bit higher so the catch light was at 10 or 11 o'clock instead of 9 o'clock and on my next session I want to either her hair or be more careful about hair falling on her shoulder. I think the hair needs to either be in front or behind the shoulders but not spread across since it's so thin. Any other suggestions?

Another great portrait from you Cheryl!!
For me I think the catchlight angles are fine and I also like the casual way her hair is onto her shoulders (What a lovely colour!!) All lovely and sharp with good eye contact and I like the lighting you have used.
Only thing I would comment about is her arms? They seem to be in a strange position and I think it would be best to have either gone in tighter to eliminate them totally or to have gone for a wider shot with, perhaps, her hands resting on her lap? Just my opinion and will be interesting to see what the other members of the group say.   Posted: 09/02/2019 11:00:15

Thanks so much for the feedback. My latest concentration has been on placement of arms, etc. Most recommendations are to create a gap between the body and the arm, but I may have created too much. I'm pretty sure I had her hands on her waist.   Posted: 09/02/2019 14:07:30

Cheryl, you really nailed this pic. clear, sharp, and a great smile and wonderful eyes. great color coordination. you might be able to get a little more depth with some contrast, but you might lose that wonderful blending of the colors. Might try to lower the blacks. Nice.   Posted: 09/06/2019 18:30:39

Great portrait! I agree with Randall on the contrast. But so nice regardless!

Lovely portrait, Cheryl! The subject is beautiful and I like the casualness of her hair and pose! The green dress suits her hair and skin tones so well! You captured a great expression on this young woman!   Posted: 09/08/2019 12:49:41

I would vote hair either in front of both shoulders and next to neck, or in front on one side and behind on the other both close to neck with maybe a little ing toward the sternum. Also, I would try having the arms not splayed out. My eyes are drawn to the lighter brighter areas of her throat, neck and chest, then to the curves of her armpits instead of to her beautiful face, eyes, and smile. All that being said, I am most definitely NOT a portrait photographer, so what do I know?   Posted: 09/24/2019 11:28:26
