About the Image(s)

Love these flowers that always seem to appear in pairs, one male and the other female. This was 26 images stacked in Affinity shot in my macro studio with a Sony A7Rm2 with Tokina 85 macro lens. I use 5 micro led light elements to get the light I’m looking for. Adjustments for detail, tone, color, and cloning to correct some blemishes all done in Luminar 4. Look forward to your comments.

Rich, this is a well composed image that is sharp throughout. My personal preference is for more colorful flowers, but I can appreciate all the work that went into stacking all of these images and bringing out all the tones in these flowers and leaves. Well done.   Posted: 03/08/2023 17:11:13

Rich I like the diagonal of the composition here and the focus stacking makes for a lovely sharp image front to back. Overall the image feels over exposed and some of the whites are close to blown out. There are some blue casts to the light on the leaves. The brightness of the green leaves seem to compete with the flowers. Perhaps try backing off that brightness so it's closer to the original image. which leaves an impression of the leaves vs them being a main feature. The crop is very tight and if you have more room at the top I feel the flowers would have more room to breathe so to speak. Alternatively a portrait orientation could really make this one sing. I did a quick edit to show what I mean. I adjusted the blacks and whites and backed off on the exposure. Anyway, just an alternative way of approaching this.   Posted: 03/12/2023 09:45:49

I like Kathryn's edits; beautiful pairing. Though stacked, the bottom flower looks less in focus than the upper. Does anyone else have that impression?   Posted: 03/13/2023 15:08:57

Hi Rich, I do agree with Kathryn that there is a colour cast on these flowers. I have taken the liberty of doing a colour balance and believe that it has brought out it's original colour. I have photographed (few years back now) many begonias and do recall a white with pink edging like this one. I've left the green leaves around it.   Posted: 03/15/2023 05:53:10

They are the most beautiful flowers, pity I can't grow them.   Posted: 03/16/2023 04:39:20

This is a very nice photo. I think that the colors are very nice and the flowers stand out well. I do see that some of the leaves appear to be brighter and that they may be better off darkened so as to not draw focus away from your subject.   Posted: 03/17/2023 00:21:31
