Hitchin’ A Ride by Ed Tepper

February 2021 - Hitchin’ A Ride

About the Image(s)

On the boardwalk at Virginia Beach in June I spied these two coming towards me so I bent down and waited for them to reach me. I love their reaction to me.

I love this picture. It has a certain surreal quality and clean look to it that I find really cool. The placement of the subject is perfect for bringing my eye into the image and focusing on the subject. And I like the depth of field that you selected for this image. This is just a really cool image in my opinion.   Posted: 02/11/2021 13:45:14

A great shot! Love the expression on the man's face and the story. The only nit I have is that the man's face is not sharp. I see the focus on the girl on the skateboard and the bottom or the bike, but the man's face doesn't seem to be in focus and I would love to see it clearer.   Posted: 02/12/2021 09:24:41

Great photo! Everything in this photo works for me. I think that the positioning of the riders in the frame is effective, riding into the space, the skateboard at the edge of the frame gives it that little extra tension. The beach umbrellas and clouds in the sky give a strong sense of place. The slight motion blur gives me the feeling of movement. I think the rider's gestures and smiles are wonderful.

One small suggestion, try increasing the contrast on the man's lower face to make it similar to the contrast on the woman's face. You might consider lightening up his dark glasses a tad, for me they dominate his face rather than his smile.   Posted: 02/12/2021 23:00:53

This is a show-stopper image! Ed, there isn't anything I would change about this, and I would enter it into a competition if I were you! The contrast and tonal range, the crop, the composition and the expressions on the faces--all fantastic!   Posted: 02/15/2021 18:35:17
