About the Image(s)

It was a nice day to get out for walk and I spied this trio watching the home team football game on TV’s in front of the taproom.
Leica Q2 28mm f2.8 1/500 ISO 4000. Adjustments in Capture One 20.

Perfect tale of our times. I see nothing here to improve. Well Done!   Posted: 10/03/2020 06:29:56

Definitely a street image...and a commentary on our times!! What I like most is the rapt attention of the guys, while the woman is clearly uninterested and merely being a good sport! You didn't say what adjustments you did in Capture One?   Posted: 10/04/2020 17:41:43

Thanks, Carol. Adjustments were:
Crop and straightened as needed.
Added universal contrast with slider and also added more contrast as a last adjustment by adding an S curve adjustment.
Reduced highlights and darkened shadows (another universal contrast adjustment)
Added some clarity (midtone contrast) and structure to get more detail in the bricks.
Using the color balance tool, cooled the shadows and midtones and warmed the highlights.
Saturated the blue jacket on the woman.
Reduced the brightness on the woman's hair.

I love the story-the men engrossed in the sports on tv and the girl ignoring it by looking at something on her phone. Both have headphones on the table. But a nit, can't figure out what the object in front of the table but before the window is. Just curious, but otherwise great photo.   Posted: 10/10/2020 16:05:14

Cool image! I have nothing I would add or change about it. Well done!   Posted: 10/10/2020 16:55:25

For me, this image conveys the difference in interest of the men and women depicted. The men are interested in the sports on the TV while the woman is interested in the content on her phone. The two men have crossed their arms, a gesture that indicates some resistance to what they are watching. Are they engrossed in the TV show but unhappy with what they are viewing? The woman appears to be a companion who has interests other than what is on TV.

The overall reddishness of the bricks distracts me from the people, I think that this image would work better in monochrome. To make the B&W conversion to work, I think it would help to overcome the dominance of the sign on the window by brightening the TV screen to draw more attention there. (Brighten greens and cyan during the conversion to B&W and or just brighten the image in the TV.)   Posted: 10/11/2020 13:43:21

Thanks for your comments Victor. I disagree with your opinion that B&W is a better choice. I alway test to see if a B&W rendering looks better than color to me. For this photo I like the realism of color and I think the color adds to the story where B&W would take away from it. The color scheme, red-orange (bricks), blue (woman's jacket and man's pants) and green (the TV screen) for a nice split complementary color scheme.   Posted: 10/11/2020 14:36:51

Great street shot! Your adjustments really improved this image. My take on the story is that the guys are not happy with the team their supporting and the woman is doubling her bet against that team with her favorite sports betting app!   Posted: 10/19/2020 13:37:01
