Waiting for Mom by Karen Johnson-Nieuwendijk

October 2019 - Waiting for Mom

About the Image(s)

I came across these two kids waiting for someone at the Alaskan Farmer Market in Anchorage. I can just about hear them saying "Come on Mom!!! Lets go home." Taken with my Sony A6300, 28-100 lens at 31mm. 1/800sec @f 5.0, ISO 160. I cropped the photo and adjusted the shadows, added some contrast and clarity.

This image made me laugh. And it's one that I would have had to take too. It is so dramatic in the story it tells. I like how you got low to the ground on this to take the picture at their level too. That makes all the difference in the world.   Posted: 10/25/2019 14:42:51

I have a granddaughter who would be in the exact position, wearing the same clothes, as the girl in this image. Nicely composed, sharp and colorful, and I definitely agree with Jim that getting low to capture the image is a big part of why it works.   Posted: 10/30/2019 10:01:55
