About the Image(s)

In late November I experimented with circular camera motion. My subject was a large Pin Oak tree in my back yard. I used a Canon 80D with a Tamron 16-300 lens set at 16mm. In order to slow the process I set the ISO to 100, the shutter speed to 1 second and the f stop to 22. I held the camera steady for a few moments and then rotated it. The objective was to get enough of the tree in focus to recognize it. Of course I made many tries. The image I present here seemed to sum up the year 2020. I did very little in post processing: adjusted highlights and shadows.

Hi Judith, I like the effect you got with ICM. It does indeed tell a story of 2020. To my eyes the opposite circular corners are distracting. I took the liberty of adjusting them; darkened and saturated a tad; and made a very mild perspective adjustment.   Posted: 01/13/2021 13:34:38

Exactly how I feel about 2020. Although making this seems cathartic, it is possible to do the same in Photoshop, try it out under Filters.   Posted: 01/14/2021 17:48:27

Hi Judith, Since it's been a very frustrating year, it's nice to use our passion (photography) to work through it like therapy that doesn't cost a bundle. I favor the image as is. The still and motion parts blend well and convey the dizzying effect of 2020. The fuzzy edge corners give the feeling of sinister restriction. Perhaps not a camera club image, but definitely an image with feeling and introspection. Karl   Posted: 01/15/2021 10:22:47

Good work. I may try something similar. Love the fact it is recognizable, but we can see the motion. As for 2020--yeah, really!   Posted: 01/26/2021 15:57:55
