Moon Bale by Jason Kravitz

May 2020 - Moon Bale

About the Image(s)

I was out photographing a full moon in February and came across this hay bale. In the process of getting in and out of the car and taking pics, I switched to f/22 accidentally and didn't realize for about 15 minutes. This one was 106mm @ 1/6", a testament to the image stabilization on this Panasonic camera / lens. I like the composition and colors in the sky but am interested in what others might do to pep up the image overall. The only edits were some spot removals (dirty sensor) and a gradient to darken the top and bring some detail back in the moon.

Panasonic DC-G9 1/6 second F/22.0 ISO 1600 106 mm

Jason, its so interesting, and quite different. I bought Luminar 4, based on your ideas last month, so here's my amateur effort with the "Deep Sky" look in Luminar 4. Just a bit brighter, not sure its an improvement. I will revisit this when I get a little smarter how how to use Luminar 4.   Posted: 05/02/2020 21:06:07

Thanks Brenda. Your edit brings out some nice color in the sky   Posted: 05/12/2020 16:34:17

I would bring up the shadows in the trees and make the bale a bit more punchy as this is the main subject of the image (Topaz AI Adjust HDR and micro clarity).

The moon needs more definition so either replace it with a better one or I copied the blue channel, masked off all but the moon and blended the layer luminosity.

Thanks Terry. I like the added clarity and toning in the sky.

Very interesting suggestion on the blue channel for enhancing the moon. Will have to give that a try.

Moon is over exposed. Remove tower and power line.   Posted: 05/21/2020 22:05:31
