Aguas Calientes by Richard Huang

August 2019 - Aguas Calientes

About the Image(s)

EXIF: Canon 5D4. other information will provide later.

The picture was taken in the Aguas Calientes, a small village under the Machu Picchu in Peru. There is a river beside the village. In a raining morning, I put my camera on the stone to take some long exposure pictures without a filter, as the light is not strong enough in the foggy morning.

I convert the picture into BNW using the nick collections, also use detail extraction filter to bring up some details of the water. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks

I feel like I'm about to get swept away by the river! Great perspective.

The long exposure gives a nice sense of movement and texture to the water. It is an interesting contrast between the old decaying buildings on the left of the frame, and nature on the right - though the whole image feels a little underexposed to me or like it could "pop" more with some contrast or brightness. (though maybe tricky to not blow out the white of the water)   Posted: 08/03/2019 08:26:07

Excellent choice of shutter speed for the water, just how I like it, not static or too silky and the detail on the foreground rocks works for me too.
I think you need to decide what this image is about, the lower two thirds is nature in all its glory and works on its own, but if you want to include the top third (and I would) then I think it needs some more work to make the buildings more of a feature.   Posted: 08/04/2019 11:22:49

Wow, I think is my favorite pic of yours to date! I love the entire look, the wildness of the nature and the little village and how you captured the water. I like the lack of contrast, it feels like morning and mysterious and very "Peru". I don't have any changes, its really "my kind of pic"!   Posted: 08/04/2019 19:42:02

This is one of my favorite pictures. It has everything. Movement, smoothness and subtle black and white. It feels like it was painted by a great artist. Nice work.   Posted: 08/07/2019 17:58:45
