About the Image(s)

I spotted this very lovely young lady and her dad, and asked her if I might take her photo. She got the okay from dad and said yes. Shot with the Leica SL2, Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 at 24mm, 1/640, f4.5, ISO 100. Conversion the B&W with Silver Efex Pro2.

A simple but beautiful scene. I like the conversion to b/w and the placement of the girl in the scene. The frame around the image is nice because it leads the viewer's eye into the scene and it is as though we were there alongside you, the photographer, as you were taking the picture. I like the contrast of the scene as it adds to the scene but doesn't detract from it. Also important to the scene is that the body of water has a triangle shape to it with the narrow point at the far end coming down the sides with the line crossing at the edge of the girl's feet. Well seen.   Posted: 05/17/2022 20:45:26

What a great image Sanford. From the moment you asked permission and got there approval, you were on a winner. Although she knows you are taking her photo, she is calm and obliging. Compositionally there is nothing wrong with it at all, good content, good depth and a good black and white tonal range. In my mind, with the colour original, the fishing lure and her shoes could be considered distractions, but your converting it to B&W is a great idea.   Posted: 05/20/2022 03:31:07

Sanford, the choice of b&w makes the image a "memory", a tribute image to a specific time and place and occasion. Everything is well balance but I would suggest that if you made the bobber red it would definitely make a statement (especially since it is dead center in the image). I like the rocks in the foreground pointing down the lake.   Posted: 05/22/2022 10:52:23

Great shot Sanford. The expression on her face is wonderful as she looks like she is working hard to get her fishing line ready. Sitting on the bucket is also a unique aspect. The leading lines are numerous with the rocks, branches, and reflection on the water. Great choice to go monochrome.   Posted: 05/22/2022 14:04:44
