About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in the spring, of a Dogwood tree next to my house. My camera was inside a second-floor bedroom with the window and screen up, shooting out at the flower. I was shooting at sunset and liked the silhouette on the flower from the back light. I did some cropping, sharpening and exposure adjustment in Lightroom. Pentax K-1, 300 mm (telephoto), f/5.6, 1/800 sec.

I really like the shadows and tree branch lines interplaying. The center of thee flower is nicely focused. The square crop is a good choice that could be improved with a vignette. The bokeh background serves the image well.   Posted: 10/05/2020 09:13:16

Thanks Trey. I agree, I have to try using a vignette more often.   Posted: 10/13/2020 20:53:21

A very fine image Jay. I agree with Trey that the square format works very well. I fully understand where you and Trey are coming from regarding the shadows and branches but their confliction is causing me a bit of grief. It must be my month for playing with other people's images. Just for the sake of discussion I have done 2 further crops, the 2nd quite radical and severe. Just are just thoughts and of course you and the others have every right to shoot me down.   Posted: 10/06/2020 22:37:22

Thanks for the extra work you put into my photo. I agree, I do like the simplicity your cropping adds to the picture.   Posted: 10/13/2020 20:45:29

I like this photograph Jay and as you may have noticed do I not care much about technical issues. If a photograph makes me stop and look once more - as this - I find it nice.   Posted: 10/08/2020 04:21:45
