About the Image(s)

These cattails are drenched in an April fog which blanketed Lake Iola. They stand as tribute to a year gone by and as sentinels of a new season to come. The image was shot at ISO 252, f/11, 1/125 sec., +1 step exposure, pattern metering, 105mm focal length. Not much opportunities under stay-at-home but when we had a foggy morn, I couldn’t resist going to a local park to capture this. Did my usual PS processing for the RAW image, put it into LR for gradient adjustments, then into TopazStudio for the painting, which I masked out most of it on the cattails. Rule of thirds for cattail on the left, the rule of 3 for the number of cattails, and use of dead space to counterweight. Under stay-at-home this was about as much “excitement” as I could get into!

Trey - very good capture and PP. Lucky you to get out to shoot! This might have been interesting in B&W.   Posted: 05/05/2020 14:59:11

Cyndy, go to Group 88 and see my b&w for that day.   Posted: 05/05/2020 15:01:38

Hi Trey. You and I have discussed postprocessing earlier and you know that I prefer as little PP as possible. As for this image I prefer the original being more mysterious and challenging for the viewer.   Posted: 05/09/2020 09:36:01

A superb final image Trey. You have taken a bland cold background and changed it to still cold but not bland. I feel the blue adds to the image. Adding some warmth to the reeds is also a good step. Removing that last vertical reed on the right has shown more water in that corner of the image. Great job.   Posted: 05/12/2020 04:00:39

Beautiful final image. The detail and sharpness of the reeds the water droplets are great. I do like the blue tint you added to the image to make the cattails pop out of the picture.   Posted: 05/14/2020 14:43:29
