Tree Artist by Jorn Holm-Pedersen

October 2019 - Tree Artist

About the Image(s)

I was on my annual visit to Bornholm - the island I was born - and found this tree artist. He makes one-off products of tree. On the photograph he is making a cask for wine.

Great shot, and great addition to your series. I like the concentration you've captured. I might have cropped a little tighter, just under his right hand, to eliminate distraction from the main subject.   Posted: 10/01/2019 18:55:08

Jorn - another nice image. I do agree with Sanford, the image might be improved with a tighter crop, and don't forget a vignette.   Posted: 10/04/2019 14:05:49

Jorn, as Sandford says, your series is coming along very well indeed. As both Sandford and Cyndy say, a crop may help, and I have offered one, just for you to consider. I like your composition, use of movement of the wood in the lathe, the side lighting and concentration of your tree artist. One of my thoughts on a series of photos is that all photos "should" be uniform in size and shape, but not always. That uniformity should also apply to the use of a vignette. Yes a vignette may help an individual image, but, if the vignette is not applied to all images, the overall series might not be so strong. Just my thoughts. Please keep this series coming.   Posted: 10/10/2019 03:32:10

Thank you for your comments. I agree the cropping suggested and as Ian shows make the image more interesting.   Posted: 10/10/2019 04:17:53

The lighting is excellent, very good focus and I think Ian's cropping brings the eye right to the action in the image. I also agree with Cyndy about a vignette. Very nice capture!   Posted: 10/12/2019 15:04:25

Really good photograph. I like the capture of the sawdust and movement of the lathe. That green shirt adds a nice element to the image.   Posted: 10/12/2019 20:43:50
