About the Image(s)
This brown pelican was sitting on a piling, and I liked the iconic look of his pose.
I processed first in ACR, then found a background I liked, to replace the water. I then masked the pelican to place him on the new background. I dodged and burned the pelican, and did a slight orton effect. I finished with the high pass filter sharpen masked to only affect the pelican.

Ah, bird pictures. Finally something I know about. I like the change in background. I'll have to give that a try. And the orton effect is to to blend? Not sure I like the sharpen, though. New things to try, as always, Thanks.   Posted: 05/04/2019 09:32:48
Sanford - the orton effect is to lend a slight blur, to soften in this case, the pelican.   Posted: 05/04/2019 12:23:51

Great image Cyndy, that began with a great original capture. You have done extremely well indeed, no doubt about it. But, your changing the background now gives it a "studio" feel about it, when the pelican is an outdoor bird, particularly when it's sitting on a piling. Your processing skills are way beyond mine, but I would like to see an alternate image where you have muted, softened or darkened the water, but leaving it recognisable as water. Then it would look more natural in my mind. I'm just thinking out loud Cyndy and don't think I would be doing my job, and would also do you a dis-service if I did not speak my thoughts. Still a great image you should be very proud of.   Posted: 05/04/2019 21:29:26
Ian - I value your input. I have come to enjoy occasionally PP of this type, with textured backgrounds, and was not a fan of the original background, hence the removal.   Posted: 05/10/2019 14:53:59
I love looking at birds in the nature. Here I would prefer the original where the sea is visible. However, your post processing is great.   Posted: 05/05/2019 04:55:03
Jorn - I too, love birds in their natural habitat. In this instance I felt the background could be improved.   Posted: 05/10/2019 14:54:47

Great photograph. The sharpness of the eye and feathers are outstanding. Changing the background makes the pelican really stand out. Beautiful work again.   Posted: 05/05/2019 22:45:04
Jay - Thank-you. I do enjoy this type of PP occasionally.   Posted: 05/10/2019 14:55:38

My first thought was that this was an art display in a museum or gallery. Nice PP on the image, IMHO. Textures and backgrounds are so subjective with regards to taste, but I like what you did. Detail on all aspects of the bird are very good. If I liked pelicans, I'd buy a print of this.   Posted: 05/10/2019 10:21:49
Trey - Thanks, so much. Pelicans are an acquired taste, but they can be so funny when they awkwardly dive.   Posted: 05/10/2019 14:57:31
