About the Image(s)

I took this at Shenandoah National Park about a year ago from the balcony of our room. The initial image was an HDR compilation of 5 exposures due to the widely varying light conditions in the scene. Some further processing in Topaz Adjust brought out the many strata more clearly than in the original as well as emphasized the orange-blue contrast. I chose the rather extreme crop to accentuate the key linear element, horizontal crests.

Olympus EM-1, mk ii, Olympus 12-100 mm f/4 @ 100mm, ISO 200, f/11, 1/640 sec.

Well, just wow!! I really love these complimentary, stratified images of the mountains and sky. I think you did an excellent job of differentiating the layers of mountains. I love the subtle tonal changes in the sky and how the intense blues give way to the subtle purples.   Posted: 10/11/2020 18:49:52

David, I like the crop you chose for this image and I think the HDR did a very good job of bringing out various layers of the mountains and colors.   Posted: 10/18/2020 12:47:00

David, the image has strong lines. I really like the additional colors that were brought out through the Topaz Adjust. It is very striking!

The one thing that I miss from the original image is the detail in the foreground- specifically the trees. For me, if you could add that back in, it would make it a stronger image.   Posted: 10/28/2020 20:57:03

Thanks all, for your comments! Pauline, I can see your point about leaving the trees in the image, but I felt that that would have left too much foreground. With the current crop, the image borders on the abstract, where color and line are the prominent features.   Posted: 10/29/2020 07:45:56
