About the Image(s)

This image was taken in Port Macquarie NSW about 300km north of Sydney during a fun run. I was trying to capture a panning shot of the family going past.
I called this image “Family Run” and I used photoshop to edit it and then used Nik Pro to turn it to mono.
I used a Canon 5Div with a 24 to 105mm lens to take the image.
Settings
ISO “ 100 at F14
Speed “ 1/50s at 47mm

I really enjoyed and can easily say that the bnw version is more impressive than the original version. Family is sharp enough and dad's legs in a blurred motion strengthen the sense of movement as it was the last detail when panning. Bnw background is blurrier than the color background which is perfect. Speed is good, 1/60 could be tried. Panning framing is excellent and deserves applause. Thanks for sharing David.   Posted: 11/06/2020 08:07:01

Hi David,
Great shot! Personally I practiced panning a thousand time, but never be successful. You are good at capturing the motion. You have a good skill.
Composition is good, timing is good, all are in good condition. In Japan, no parents with a stroller run or even jog, se we do not encounter such situation. This is fun image for me as well.
Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 11/07/2020 00:44:23

Very successful shooting, full of dynamic and story. After converting into black and white photos, the interference of the complicated background is removed, and the subject is more prominent.   Posted: 11/07/2020 18:20:24

Panning is not easy, everybody who has tried it, knows that. You have chosen the right shutter speed and you know how to move the camera. I like the composition where they are running into the picture. The sense of speed and movement is captured in an excellent way. Very well done, David.   Posted: 11/08/2020 00:43:07

I think panning is fun, even though it can be really frustrating at times. Your composition is very good and you captured the motion very well. I would agree with Ata that you should give 1/60 a try - I'd like to see the blur of the wheel spokes remain, which might not happen at 1/60.   Posted: 11/10/2020 13:58:21

Great panning shot .
The speed is just right so that the main subjects are sharp while the feet are a bit blurry to imply motion.
Composition is wonderful too since you allow room for the subjects to move into.
BW version eliminate the distraction caused by the colors.
You even captured great smile on mom's face.
