About the Image(s)

I captured this image a few weeks ago at a shopping centre near by where I live. The girl was doing a lot of gymnastics and I asked her mother if it was OK to take a pictue of the girl. (It is a good idea to ask parents before taking pictues of children.) What facinated me was the shadow that enhanced the shape of the girl.

The postproduction is done in PS and is mainly some cropping and dodge and burn using luminosity masks.

Camera: Canon 5D mark 4 with Canon TS-24 mm lens
ISO 160, Shutter: 1/125 s, Aperture: f/10

Hi Arne,
Thank you for sharing.
I amaze your "excellent eye" to find the interesting subject and your ability of B&W conversion. I need to develop that myself.
Anyway, I think your cropping and tone control in conversion to B&W was very successful to deliver you intention. Unique shadow catch my eyes and gradually they move to the girls.
There are bright parts in background but they do not bother my eyes. This comes from your technique of cropping and tone value control, I assume.
I will give you an big hand!   Posted: 11/03/2020 04:08:23

Hi Arne, color original and bnw versions are not same. It's understandable to lose some details and textures while converting to bnw and they can be found in color version. It's really an interesting frame which you've captured on time. As color and bnw copies are different; face of children is not seen clearly in bnw copy, but clear in original. It's a good idea not to increase shutter speed more to keep water fountains a bit silky. Girl's full shadow supports the composition. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 11/07/2020 08:03:05

Very good character, light and shadow, with a story, a certain dynamic and impact, more exciting than the original color version!   Posted: 11/07/2020 18:16:28

I think there's no question about the subject in this really good monochrome image. The shadow grabs my eyes and pulls me forward to view the young gymnast. When I look around the image, I'm always draw back to that shadow. Very nice crop choice and good range of grays.   Posted: 11/10/2020 13:36:24

Love the BW version.
I was expecting a sunset sky when I saw the long shadow but was surprised with the blue sky.
The cropping emphasized the subject and the water fountains .
Great story and action.
