About the Image(s)

This old truck was found on an old homestead. It was mid day so I bracketed my images and the first processing was to HDR. I then converted the HDR image into B&W using a preset called “Ansel in the Valley” in the ON1 2020 software program. I wanted the image to look more like it had been photographed during the homestead years. Camera was Sony 7RMIII, Tamron lens 28-75mm f/2.8. Photographed in manual mode, f/8, 1/200 sec, auto ISO.

It looks like 40s Chevy. I've firstly noticed starting crank hole. Impressive gray tones support nostalgia. Have you also used higher aperture - lower shutter speed?   Posted: 12/02/2019 01:24:22

The image is definitely better in B&W as the make of the lorry is about the same as when B&W was the only alternative. When it comes to content, I feel that the picture is too busy. The straws in front of the lorry and the trees in the background take attention from the main subject. May be captured it from the other side would be better? The white grass in the background also takes attention.

On the positive side, you have a full tonal range from black to white and a lot of grey in between.

I am sorry to see you go and thank you for your contribution to our group. Wish you good luck in another group!   Posted: 12/07/2019 15:31:44

The above comments are good and the picture is a lot better in B/W. I would offer a couple of changes, first I would level the truck, then darken the white areas of the truck body then I would lighten the tree growing out of the cab so it draws your eye to the cab.   Posted: 12/15/2019 23:51:30

I love finding old, abandoned vehicles. You've done a nice job with this one. I think the only change I'd make was one David mentioned - leveling the truck.   Posted: 12/16/2019 13:55:11

The monochrome version really convey the mood of an old abandoned truck.
Love all the textures and full range of tone.
Best of luck to you .   Posted: 12/27/2019 15:28:08
