About the Image(s)
Deion: This photo was taken last month at Cape Disappointment State Park, WA. The big waves here usually occur during the winter season in West coast of Washington as a result of winter storms. November thru January are the best months to capture big waves at Cape Disappointment State Park, and it also attracted a lot of photographers during that season. Usually we will get very nice waves when the swells are forecast to be 12' or higher. Watching the big waves hitting the cliffs is also very enjoyable. My camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 70-300mm, f/7.1, 110mm, 1/1250 sec, ISO-400.

Great capture of big waves Peter. Again, as is your usual practice, the background mountains on the right bring good depth to the image, while the nearby headland and the wave itself provide strong impact. Very well done.   Posted: 02/09/2021 02:42:04
Wow, that's indeed a huge wave, one can feel its power. The trees and the lighthouse help you understand the size of the waves. You might negotiate with the owner of the lighthouse to paint it, preferably with red :)   Posted: 02/14/2021 00:16:50
Great catch Peter! The wave is very powerful. Ian and Janos have already said my thoughts to it. Very well done.   Posted: 02/14/2021 11:16:51
Peter
This is a great image showing the power of the waves crashing on to the rocks. The time of day appears to be later on in the afternoon and the light that comes through the wave is great.
Do yo have any images at a slower shutter speed? It would be interesting to see some movement in the water as a comparison.   Posted: 02/15/2021 17:47:08

Just a terrific vantage point, Peter. The image has strong impact and nice layering. I have never photographed waves like that, but I wonder as Dave suggested, whether experimenting with shutter speeds makes sense? Otherwise, your composition is spot on.   Posted: 02/16/2021 04:35:07
This image is so powerful with the waves taking center stage. Rather remarkable and it certainly tells us why the lighthouse is so far up on the rock cliff! It reminds me of some of the waves in Hawaii that the surfers yern for....not I, since I think they are crazy, me I'd rather document the majestic and powerful nature of the ocean through images than risk my life to defeat it!
