About the Image(s)

I have two pictures, same place, but I want to know which you think is the better photo. I like the sky with "the View, but the "Winding Road" gives a better balance to me. these were taken from a tower in North Dakota, one higher than the other. Your opinions.
The View Nikon D7000, F8,1/250 sec. ISO 100,
Winding Road - NIkon D7000, F7.1,200, ISo 100

This is a tough one.....But I think I will end up going with your gut....that road is just spectacular, drawing you into the sky, but it also gives you more of the autumn colors on the foliage.

The View also has those tree branches on the far left that are distracting and that little silver/white object. Not to say you could not remove them pretty easily with Photoshop, because it would not be hard. I had a mentor that would call that Border Patrol. Try to keep extraneous items that do not add to the image.

But nice images ....   Posted: 11/09/2020 14:55:04

Please everyone note that the one labeled original is not the original just a second image that Debbie wants us to compare and contrast.   Posted: 11/09/2020 14:56:16

Thanks Sherri, I will keep the border control in mind. Its good to see what others see.   Posted: 11/09/2020 17:55:03

Debbie, I like more the one called "original". I don't know why, it gives me somehow more depth. I would have worked on that, maybe dramatized the sky, eventually even cutting part of it.
The one you selected, is more "landscapeish". It has a small buleish something left bottom, that is not needed. The half tree is a question mark for me.
At the end of the day, both are nice ones.   Posted: 11/13/2020 02:16:14

The vertical image (labeled 'original') is my favorite by far! The winding road is amazing and it brings out the fall foliage much better. My eye is led through the scene from front to back in a very pleasing manner. As Janos said, you might not need as much sky. It is really a terrific shot.   Posted: 11/13/2020 06:23:30

I agree I would go with the vertical or "original." The reason for me is that the road keeps moving more in the vertical from below entering the image and goes towards the top - my eye wants to keep going to see what is next. Great shot I really enjoy the original .

The sky I might add some contrast and or use the ND filter in Lightroom to make it pop a bit more.   Posted: 11/14/2020 11:24:21

thanks everyone one. Your opinions count. Dave will try to make the vertical shot sky a little better.   Posted: 11/14/2020 18:02:10

The original one has beautiful fall colors and I like fall colors more. For the vertical photo I think it looks better if we don't include too much of the sky, so I would prefer crop out half of the sky. Beautiful shot.   Posted: 11/23/2020 22:11:07
