Tough Day of Fishing by Dave Ficke

October 2020 - Tough Day of Fishing

About the Image(s)

June Lake, California in October. Clear skies - bummer but it is what it is. This was taken early in the morning with side lighting. Hiked down a slop to get the trees more into the frame and set up tripod. 4 images stitched together. ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/1600 sec. Nikon D810 with the 24-70 lens at 70mm.

Post - Lightroom - lens correction for each image, then stitched them together, Adjusted highlights, saturation, vibrance and some clarity. Was thinking of taking out the fishing boat, but it adds to the photo.

Dave,
So many times people say it has to have clouds, but I really like the simplicity of the sky to make all the mountains and colors pop! The leaves really are great contrast to the lake and the sky. Good Job   Posted: 10/09/2020 21:49:57

Beautiful shot , and while there are no clouds, it does not take away from the composition or beauty of the scene. The from trees make for a nice leading line. What a beautiful pristine place and fall in the air which combine to make a lovely image! Nicely done.   Posted: 10/10/2020 11:33:40

You did a nice job putting all the elements together. The lack of clouds doesn't bother me as you minimized the sky and brought the eye down to the water. Leaving the fishing boat in was a good idea too. The framing of the trees and the mountains makes it all work. I am sometimes tempted to use a filter to smooth things out, but I'm not sure that is really necessary here since it's pretty smooth already.   Posted: 10/15/2020 18:32:39

I thank you all so many times we are told that clouds make an image, create drama etc. then there are times that the weather doesn't cooperate. That is ok. But does that mean you go home, not get out your camera? Certainly not!
Having been an educator for 33 years my best times is when the students are out in the environment. We must ask a fundamental question, are we lovers of our environment and the photography is secondary - icing on the cake or is getting the photograph more important than the experience.
Thank you   Posted: 10/15/2020 20:38:19

what a nice place! Good decision not take out the boat, without it would be "too calm", we need something to drive our eyes. The colors are perfect.   Posted: 10/18/2020 04:32:51

A stunning image Dave, I don't think there is any better way you could present it. Well done.   Posted: 10/22/2020 03:06:58
