Golden Larches in Lake Vivian by Peter Cheung

October 2020 - Golden Larches in Lake Vivian

About the Image(s)

The picture was taken few days ago when I hiked Enchantments in Leavenworth. It was a difficult and long hike, but because the larches season is right now so I spent two days to hike up to Enchantments in Leavenworth in order to see the beautiful larch trees on the mountains. I used small aperture to capture the sun rays on the top of the larch tree. The camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 18-35mm, f/16, 21mm, 1/160 secs, iso-100.

Spectacular spot, just love the area. That water looks pristine and the color of the trees is magnificent. A 2 day hike is pretty steep requirements to get the image of the larch trees but certainly worth all the effort. It looks pristine and untouched by human thoughtlessness. The composition is spot on and makes me sorry I can't travel to get to the states with such beautiful fall colors. Congrats!

I happen to really like the starburst effects but some people will not do them because they say people will only focus on the starburst and nothing else (or so one of the nay sayers told me - a professional photographer).   Posted: 10/09/2020 16:07:13

Beautiful shot of the trees, but Unlike Sherry I dont care for the starburst to take over the photo. The trees are gorgeous.   Posted: 10/09/2020 21:56:11

Awesome shot - the sun burst is way cool and the colors really pop. Really like the combination of the water foreground and the background - great shot.   Posted: 10/15/2020 17:00:48

Well done! Beautiful colors and the image is sharp all around. I like the starburst because you have no clouds and so it helps compensate for that. Plus, you were able to pull out all the dynamic range from the water to the foreground.   Posted: 10/16/2020 07:39:41

Beautiful colors and composition. I like the starburst - but I would have put it in another place, e.g. in the left, on the clear sky, not covering the top of the larch.   Posted: 10/18/2020 06:43:40
