The Matterhorn by Sherry Icardi

June 2020 - The Matterhorn

About the Image(s)

This image was taken in Zermatt, Switzerland about half way down the mountain. Some of our group decided to hike back down the mountain instead of taking the Tram that runs up from the town of Zermatt. We were not aware how rough the terrain was (plus we were carrying full backpacks with camera gear) and a couple of us made it to the 4 mile mark, but there was still a long way to go, so we decided to catch the tram at a way station. The remainder of the group chose to continue on and barely made it back before it was dark.

But as a result I got this unique image of the Matterhorn from the middle of the trail. Very different perspective than what one normally sees!

Taken with D750 and 24-120 lens at 24 mm.

A superb landscape Sherry. Barren, desolate, rugged all come to mind. Some people might say it could use a little more contrast, but I'm not so sure. I like it just the way you've presented it. It would look good hanging on a wall.   Posted: 06/09/2020 05:53:56

Love it and I do not mind that it is sky dominant. I might try the dehaze a tad and bring out some luminosity on the orange to give it a bit of pop.

A few years back we had the opportunity to go but it rained the 4 days were there - just an excuse to go back again.   Posted: 06/14/2020 16:57:56

Nice and quite an usual angle which is not easy to realize since Matterhorn is the most photographed mountain in the world! I also visited it and had medium good weather conditions. I want to go back because there is a trail where you visit 5 lakes and can take pictures mirroring the Matterhorn in 5 different ways.   Posted: 06/15/2020 03:33:17

When I was there we did the lake that is the most famous, not sure its name..but it is the one that they have on all their local brochures. We did sunrise and the glow was magnificent. This one was different than most I have seen so I really liked it.   Posted: 06/16/2020 20:16:49

Love how the trail leads you more into the picture. Coloring is great, it balances itself. Cant see anything I would want to change, except to be there myself. Great shot.   Posted: 06/26/2020 09:15:32

Beautiful picture. The sky is beautiful. I like the soft tone of the picture. Very good composition also.   Posted: 06/26/2020 09:31:08
