About the Image(s)

This was taken in Death Valley and the first is out of camera. Nikon D810, ISO 100 at 19mm f13 and 1/60.
I coped the image, adjusted exposure, used the grad filter, adjusted contrast, used some brush strokes. I thought that the bush in the foreground was distracting

I've not been to Death Valley, but it looks like an awesome place.
The clouds add lots of texture and agree I would remove the bush as well. It is well suited to a panorama.
I have two suggestions - one is I would level the foot of the mountains, I am very distracted by the angle of the base.
Have you tried this as a Black and White (or sepia perhaps) ? Since there is very little color I wonder if it might not look striking in monotones.   Posted: 05/09/2020 12:24:10

I completely understand the horizon line is off. The camera is level and that's the slope of the landscape. I went back and forth on this and decided to keep it true to Death Valley as the alluvial fan drainage slopes to the valley.

Monochrome might try it. Your correct not a lot of color.   Posted: 05/09/2020 17:00:03

An image to be proud of Dave. Before reading the comments that horizon line didn't bother me, landscapes do flow in all directions. From down here, I would not expect to see too much in Death Valley, color included. In my mind, the way you have presented this final image is superb indeed.   Posted: 05/12/2020 05:02:21

The texture of the clouds is wonderful. My eyes keep going to the foreground. I suggest dodging the mountains and burning the foreground. It is a good image.   Posted: 05/13/2020 10:36:55

I like the texture and dramatic feel of the clouds. The mountain is also quite beautiful but is a little small on the whole picture. I would suggest cropping out the foreground and make the mountain 1/3 of the picture. Beautiful image.   Posted: 05/17/2020 23:24:16

Great capture, great post-processing. Especially the clouds are fantastic. To be honest, the horizon line a bit bothers me. I tried an alternative composition but you are right, this is not the "true" Death Valley.   Posted: 05/18/2020 00:30:58
