About the Image(s)

echnical details: t=1/15 sec, f/20 and ISO 320

It is a gulf of the Baikal lake, land, water, everything frozen. It was not too colorful, while the clouds looked dramatically, so I decided to convert it in b&w.

This is a striking image in Black and White. I am amazed at the desolation of the area and would think it is not a busy place except for photographers. Almost looks like it could be a "moonscape" taken by one of the astronauts on their short time on the moon.

How long were you there and what was the average temperature? I would think you went through batteries like never before. Very interesting place....I had to look it up to see exactly where you were. Siberia .....and it is the deepest lake in the world....fascinating. Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 05/09/2020 12:30:55

Thanks Sherry. We were in the zone of Olkhon Island which is an island in the summer but now one can drive on the ice, there is quite a traffic on the frozen lake. Temperature is around -22 to -28 C. Surprizingly, the batteries lasted quite a long time both the camera and the drone batteries. Amazing world.   Posted: 05/09/2020 23:54:43

Siberia ??? WOW. Even more desolate than I imagined, but also more picturesque. B&W does produce a dramatic image. I love the clouds and the overall image Janos, very well done, but I must say I would love to see those dark rock areas both to the left and right about a third of the way up just lightened a little, to give them some more detail.   Posted: 05/12/2020 04:38:00

Janos, it is a very good image. The clouds are perfect, but I agree with Ian that the rock areas should be brighter to bring out more details.   Posted: 05/13/2020 10:37:41

I like this black and white version. It is dramatic and dreamy. The frozen and milky lake water added some dreamy tone of the picture. I agree with Ian also the dark rock areas should be brighten a little bit. Amazing image.   Posted: 05/17/2020 23:42:02

Really enjoy the B&W. You and I love those clouds and such wilderness. I/we can tell that this is a frozen land and lake is frozen but it is dead center and my eyes try to look around and are brought back to the white lake. I know there is no detail in the lake but maybe crop a bit more off the top or the bottom. Since you have no strong foreground maybe the bottom. Just my 2 cents   Posted: 05/21/2020 15:31:24
