Baikai Lake by Janos Demeter, EPSA

March 2020 - Baikai Lake

About the Image(s)

Please find attached my photo for March. I have just returned for a photo tour at the frozen Baikal lake. It’s a paradise for landscapers.
The photo was taken at the sunrise obviousla from a tripod, t=0.8 sec, f/13 and ISO 100. And temperature -24 C ( -11 F).

What beautiful sunrise colors! were you standing on the lake/ice when you took this shot? I would guess that when that sun comes up the ice must sparkle, but would be difficult to photograph. The colors remind me of a Monet painting.

Have you looked at other ways to crop this? I might try cropping the bottom part of the ice off and focus more on the upper portion with that beautiful light (pano crop).Just a thought.

A stunning image Janos. I acknowledge what Sherry has said about a possible pano crop, but I also enjoy this image just the way you have presented it. I firmly believe that an image can be found within an image and Sherry's comment alludes to this. Very well done indeed.   Posted: 03/16/2020 07:01:18

Excellent image Janos. Like the wonderful sunrise colors with clouds. I completely agree with Sherry. I did crop the image with minor adjustments in Photoshop.

Thanks guys for comments and suggestions. Yes, I always start with cropping in different ways and I admit that the result is not necessary the best one.   Posted: 03/17/2020 04:45:07

Beautiful image and colors. I like the blue color tone of the sunrise also. Did you try to use very low angle, such as laying on the ice, to see if this will bring even more interesting point of perspective to the image?   Posted: 03/20/2020 17:34:03

Janos, Very nice shot - the colors are great and the reflection is superb. Shows a great expanse and I really like it. I tend to go with the crop making it into a pano.   Posted: 03/22/2020 15:47:06
