Sunset at Second Beach, Olympic National Park, WA by Peter Cheung

June 2018 - Sunset at Second Beach, Olympic National Park, WA

About the Image(s)

Sunset in Olympic Peninsula is beautiful, especially at the Second Beach. The picture was taken during sunset while the sun was just behind the hole of the wall. The camera settings are Nikon D810, Nikon 14-24mm, f/16, 1/5 sec, 24mm. I cropped the picture so the wave and the hole in the wall are getting closer. After taking the picture my feet all got wet.

Great image Peter. Time of day and lighting are great as is the composition and I love the ray of light coming through the hole in the wall. The only thing I find confusing is the water flow. The distant wave appears to be coming straight at us, the center wave going a little right to left and the water going over the foreground rock from left to right? Wet feet is not a problem on you or your tripod, just make sure the Nikon stays dry.   Posted: 06/12/2018 07:38:57

Thanks Ian. Yes the distant wave came from back to front, but the wave that hit the rock came from left to right. I took many shots of the wave that hit the rock and most of them was only random texture. Only couple of them showed interesting texture of lines.   Posted: 06/18/2018 12:41:50

Beautiful image Peter! Love the overall composition and I am a sucker for smooth waters! The layers are great, drawing your eye into the diagonal lines of the rock. And to top it off the golden rays of sunset add beautiful color to the image. Nicely done, for sure!   Posted: 06/14/2018 11:30:08

Wonderful capture. Natural zigzag geometrical lines. Wish I could capture similar someday.   Posted: 06/25/2018 15:43:49
