About the Image(s)

This image was taken as part of a portfolio project I am working on with a camera club I belong to. The portfolio revolves around street scenes of Sydney, some taken as they would have been seen back in 1918 and some other street scenes taken as they are now seen 100 years later, in 2018. This image is of both, the old and the new. It may make it into the final collection of images and it may not. All images will be in black and white, because in 1918 that's all they had. Capture details are: Sony a850; Sigma 20mm prime lens; 1/250 second, f8; ISO 200 & hand held. No cropping with this one, only some minor adjustments in LR to enhance detail in the buildings. A curious detail - the modern building bottom far left, partially obscured by the sandstone tower is a circular building and called "Australia Square". That could only happen here in Australia !!!

Isn't it interesting the old vs. the new? While in Milan I took a shot of an old church right up against a mirrored, curved, new building. I know the church will still be standing in 200 years, but not so sure about the slick new building.

Shooting up is tough to get the angles right, but your composition takes your eye in a full circle. My eye takes me counterclockwise. I suspect I must have a preference for the old! Very different shot, but I really do like it !   Posted: 06/14/2018 11:36:05

A long exposure with some cloud movements in monochrome would complete the image IMHO.   Posted: 06/25/2018 15:42:59
