About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in December at 9:30 AM. My thought was to show the Point Arena coastline leading to the lighthouse. I am a “what I see is what you get” photographer, but sometimes the camera sees it differently. So I do a light touch up in Photoshop. For this shot I cropped and used the brightness/contrast adjustment. I have a Canon EOS T3i with a 55-250mm lens. The lens was set at 55mm, f8, ISO 200, 1/640 sec.

Welcome to Group 73! Nice to have you onboard. Beautiful shot of the Lighthouse. I really like the added texture that the rugged coastline provides. Composition is great. Sharp focus and clean image with no distracting extras. Have you considered doing this scene in a long exposure to smooth out the water? I think that might be fun to try! I also wonder how it would look in portrait orientation? Just giving you some ideas for future trips to this beautiful coastline.   Posted: 01/09/2018 09:34:07

Looking at it, I am think perhaps you should crop out the blue sky at the top, but I really like them both.

I am amazed at how much it changes the overall feel of the image. The rocky coast takes over and becomes the focus of the shot instead of the lighthouse. Very interesting experiment. Both have merit and I like them both.   Posted: 01/12/2018 18:31:04

Just for fun I covered the left side of my screen on this photo...right to the edge of the rocks in the lower center. For me visually it helped draw my eyes/focus to the subject which I believe is the lighthouse. Sometimes using a telephoto lens in landscapes will have the same effect for composition if you prefer not to do edits in post.   Posted: 01/09/2018 12:30:09

Thank you for your comment. I think the original looks more like my like what I was thinking when I shot it.I cropped it to bring the file size down.I did use a 55-250mm lens   Posted: 01/09/2018 15:31:13

Hi Tony, greetings from Australia and this group member who sent his image to Sherry well in advance, but I just sent it to the wrong email address. You can all have a good laugh now and get it out of your systems. I'll be back next month. Your image Tony is great and I salute your "What you see is what you get attitude". But we all look at the same thing differently. To me, this image is just crying out to be made into a panorama, the same as David's from last month. Not changing any of the elements in the image, just focusing the viewer's attention onto certain elements. Have a look at David's December 2017 image. There are elements in your image Tony, that while they do not detract at the moment, I feel with some healthy cropping, the resultant image would be a stunner.   Posted: 01/16/2018 05:17:27
