Flying Away by Dr Isaac Vaisman, PPSA

March 2023 - Flying Away

About the Image(s)

This image of the Osprey flying away with the fish was created at Blue Cypress Lake in Central Florida last year in April, on a boat using a Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor zoom lens S 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 + TC 1.4 x for a total of 560 mm and with these settings: ISO 1250, f/8 and 1/3200 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.
The natural behavior of the Ospreys is that once they catch the fish they would reap off the head and then fly to a secure place to it it. In this case we came too close to the cypress tree and the bird got scared and flew away

Isaac, This is a fabulous image of an Osprey. I love how you captured him balancing on one toe, while holding tightly onto his catch with the talons on his other foot. The details of his feathers are highly effective. I really love the story that is coming to mind as I stare at his cool expression. It's as if he is saying, "Don't even think about taking this fish!"   Posted: 03/02/2023 10:03:57

Isaac, As soon as I saw your image I knew it was from Blue Cypress Lake. I think I have an image of an Osprey taking off from the same branch. I have been there four times and hope to go again. You image inspired me to copy you and post an osprey from there as well. The guides are awesome and even recognize individual birds and how the react. The bird taking off straight at you in addition to the fish adds to a great pose. Bruce   Posted: 03/04/2023 12:45:57

What a great image of the Osprey. I like how the wing span fills the frame. The bird's pose and direct eye contact to the camera make this a great image. Nicely done.   Posted: 03/16/2023 08:00:05

Isaac, being on a boat was perfect to get an uncluttered view of the osprey and the boat disturbing it resulted in great eye contact which you took full advantage of. Great image!   Posted: 03/19/2023 16:54:49

Hi Isaac, you have captured the osprey in the moment when she is starting its flight but it still has one of its claws attached to the branch wit a nice wing display. The clean background and the colour made the perfect frame to this image that is pin sharp and tell us the history of the Osprey feeding behaviour. It is a very well captured image.   Posted: 03/27/2023 06:12:55
