About the Image(s)

Horses and Cattle Egrets was created at the Assateague Island National Seashore Park located between Maryland and Virginia. This is a sanctuary for wild horses, which normally are very far away from the main road, and there is no possibility to come close to them. They are protected fauna. We were lucky when we drove by and were able to see them since they came as close as they can. It is interesting the symbiotic arrangement between the horses and the Cattle Egrets that take care of the bugs and have a constant supply of organic food. It was a cloudy overcast day.
I used the Nikon Z6 with the Nikkor lens 500 mm PF f/5.6 with these settings: ISO 500, f/8 and 1/640 sec. The image was PP in lightroom for exposure, white balance, clarity, vibrance and was cropped. The original out of camera is included.

Isaac, How fortunate to catch such a unique image! The image captures the spirit of mutualism in nature. You captured the critical elements of survival such as water in the foreground and the the animals' need for space, which is captured by the depth in the image. At first I wondered if a panoramic would make it more effective; however, the more I viewed it, I realized that the water in the foreground is necessary to tie all aspects of the mutualism together. Nicely done!   Posted: 04/03/2021 10:30:12

What a wonderful example of this interaction. Previously, I had only known of cattle and the cattle egrets. It is amazing what it does for this image to bring out the yellows! Just that one adjustment brings much life to your image. At the time this was taken, it would have been interesting to get a close-up of a few but i understand, from your settings, that you were quite a distance away. A very unique image. Thank you for sharing it.   Posted: 04/12/2021 14:33:40

Isaac, cool image with the egrets catching a free ride. My only thought for this one would be to crop the bottom area which is out of focus and does not seem to add any interest to my eye. Heading for Texas April 14, tomorrow and then on to Florida April 23 for a week. Bruce   Posted: 04/13/2021 21:59:37

Isaac, it is indeed a lucky shot to get not only the wild horses up close, but also with the egrets. Your crop really makes the shot stand out and the PP brought out the detail and the color. Excellent!   Posted: 04/15/2021 12:53:50
