About the Image(s)

Taken in Yellowstone last February near Soda Butte, an area where they like to hang out. This nice ram Was within a few feet of the road snacking on some of the vegetation uncovered by the melting snow. . They are quite tame due to the number of visitors. I cropped the image a little and cloned out some of the distraction weeds. then sharpened a bit.

How close were you to this powerful animal? What zoom were you using. Those sharp eyes really hold my attention.   Posted: 01/03/2021 11:07:35

Thanks Mary, the sheep was just off the road on a steep hillside so was able to use my car as a blind and it came even closer so was only about 10 yards away when it stopped. It had no fear of people. I have noticed before that they really do not fear people. I was using my canon 100-400 lens .Bruce   Posted: 01/04/2021 22:12:04

That Canon lens is a beauty. I purchased it before going to Africa in 2008. It was worth every penny.   Posted: 01/04/2021 22:31:25

Should have let me know it was Ram month. :) Nice photo, good focus on eyes. In the past I've played with some plugins like Topaz Glow to enhance the fur. I'm still experimenting with it and don't have an exact go to methodology, but it would help add a little dimension to this photo by pulling the animal off the snow background.   Posted: 01/03/2021 11:39:08

Bruce, the eyes are killer on this shot. They look golden and really command your attention. The only thing I might try to do is clone out the grass from his mouth. Great shot!   Posted: 01/04/2021 17:07:11

Bruce, As I mentioned to Walt, I am a huge fan of these fabulous creatures! The eyes you have captured are awesome. As I stare at him, I just can't help but to wonder what he is thinking as he casually munches on the grass that he found. Your image lends itself well to an interesting story.   Posted: 01/04/2021 19:02:01

Bruce, great image. I do not mind the grass in his mouth. It gives some action to it. This Ram is used to see people (you were very close) you do not disclose the zoom setting, but you can tell since you filled the frame with his face. Very sharp. The whites are not overexposed and the detail on the fur is just impressive. Indeed, great shot.   Posted: 01/04/2021 19:10:52
