About the Image(s)

I took this image after a long night of star photography at Sunrise on Mt Rainier. It was during the big forest fire of 2014. I was headed home when the mountain asters caught my eye along the side of the road, and I pulled over. Taken with my D800 with a 24-70 f2.8 lens at f8, 1/15 sec, 50 mm, and ISO 100. I processed in PS 6, where I added light to the flowers, removed some annoying weeds, and did some sharpening and color adjustment. The layers of smoke in the background remind me of the Great Smokies, but the air smelled of smoke.

Walt, it makes quite a nice moody image. I would usually brighten it up a bit but I think your choice works well.   Posted: 03/05/2020 12:50:36

Walt, nice composition rich in layers: foreground with partially illuminated flowers and one type of pine trees, mid ground formed by the other type of pine trees, and the background with multiple shades and shapes with the subtle colors of dawn right before sunrise. Indeed the center of attention is on the flowers.   Posted: 03/05/2020 14:03:38

Like Mary said, your choice not to do too much brightness adjustment is well done. So many photographers produce images that announce "I am post-processed." This is just lovely.   Posted: 03/14/2020 23:47:17

Lovely moody image Walt! Lots to look at throughout the image and I find the brightness of the flowers are believable relative to plants above them. Skilfully processed!   Posted: 03/16/2020 13:40:24
