About the Image(s)

I took this image at 4:15 pm last March while hiking in the Valley of Fire State Park in Southern Nevada. There were 3 female Bighorn Sheep with their babies. I was particularly intrigued with this female because as I hid behind a nearby bush, she caught my eye and continued to feed in a very relaxed manner. I tried to capture her nonchalant personality when I took this image. I used a Nikon D5500 camera with a 16-300 Tamron lens; ISO 250, 150 mm, F9, 1/320. I processed the image in Lightroom with a little tweaking in Color Efex Pro 4.

Marie, nice job with exposure, sharpness, and pose. The right side of the sheep is a little close to the edge for my eye is my only nit. Well done. Bruce   Posted: 10/16/2019 20:26:52

Marie - I very much like the quirky expression you have captured here with clear evidence of her eating. The animal is sharp and well captured. I like Bruce feel you have been too tight in your crop. I like very much how the face is looking slightly to the viewers right and as such you have positioned the head slightly left. This works well, but I would give more space all around whilst still achieving this core position. Also, try reducing the whites in the bottom left plant a tad.

A nice image!   Posted: 10/18/2019 07:59:53

Marie, I agree with Adrian and Bruce, in that the crop went a little too far. The rest of the shot is on balance done very well. It is sharp, and the expression is perfect for an animal with lunch in her mouth! Great capture.   Posted: 10/20/2019 10:19:09

Marie, I like this image very much. You captured the big horn eating, with the added feature that is looking at you. I do not mind the presence of branches and vegetation at its feet, which you can not see anyway from your vantage point, so I modified your crop to one which is more generous on the environment and frames the sheep. The colors are nice, and it is sharp. I placed the head in one of the thirds. Also added some light to the shadows, and now we can see more detail in the fur.   Posted: 10/20/2019 12:40:09

Isaac, Thank you very much. I see the difference in your edit, which I really like. I have realized that I need to work on my cropping techniques and seeing the edited version is very useful.   Posted: 10/20/2019 14:55:33
