About the Image(s)

Taken this image last March at Kaziranga National Park. It was late afternoon and this Elephant Herd is crossing a water body. This young calf seems to be most confident of the lot and I highlighted the calf as the main subject of my image. As there was beautiful rim light around the calf, I find it best to process the image in monochrome.

Camera was Nikon D750 with Tamron SP 150-600mm G2 lens. Settings were f/6.3, 1/2500sec, ISO:1600, FL:600mm and Hand Held. Processing is in LR Classic CC.

Abhijeet, great image and well PP treatment. I like the B&W interpretation. The crop maybe a little too tight in the lower border, but you were able to isolate the young elephant and make it prevail. The image is sharp. It is always good to be in the right place at the right time.   Posted: 10/09/2019 22:23:12

Abhjeet, I also like the monochrome treatment. I might also try a tighter crop eliminating the large elephant on the left. It seems to draw my attention away from the small one which is the real subject. Bruce   Posted: 10/16/2019 20:13:51

Abhjeet, I agree with Isaac and Bruce about the B & W, which really enhances the texture. I love the light around the little calf.   Posted: 10/17/2019 08:04:33

Abhjeet - Were both taking elephants! B&W works very well and I like your processing.
I like your crop of sides and top. You need the little one's neighbours to help the story of size comparison and leadership. You've taken quite a bit of the surrounding animals away and I judge you have left the best amount.

As to the bottom, you were forced into this crop because of the egrets. You could try dropping the crop to include the top part of the left bird and then cloning it out with grass.

A lovely image.   Posted: 10/18/2019 08:49:12

Abhjeet, I like the image very much, and the BW treatment is spot on. I edited your crop to include the elephant on the left as I feel he adds balance. I also ran the image through Topaz AI clear to add some detail and Nik Viveza to darken the distracting water background. Then just a bit of dodging in PSCC to highlight the little leader. I did not do the BW conversion. Great job!   Posted: 10/20/2019 10:38:24

Abhjeet, I like the verion from Walt, it seems more balanced and still keeps the small one as a major subject. Bruce   Posted: 10/31/2019 14:17:58
