About the Image(s)

“Grab and Scoot” is taken during my trip to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary here in India. There was a bunch of Lineated Barbets feeding on banana flowers. And there was this dominating bird. The other birds do not have any options but to quickly fly in, grab a flower and quickly fly away. I had taken a series of shots, some quite hilarious. sharing one here.

Image is taken using Nikon D750 with a Nikkor 24-120mm f4 lens. Settings were f/6.3, 1/2500sec, ISO-1600, FL-300mm and hand held. Post processing is done in LR-Classic CC. As the original image is underexposed, done some exposure and color corrections.

Abhijeet, Wow, I am impressed at the clarity of this shot given that you took it handheld. I would darken the background highlights some to add contrast to the birds, but that is my preference. I would also remove the banana in the lower right as I find it distracting. Great capture!   Posted: 03/09/2019 08:53:54

Abhijeet, nice action shot. I like the colors of the background, contrasting with the green of the birds. The shadow over the rocks enhances the image. I agree with Walt about the banana, so I cloned it out. Also reduced the brightness and added light to the shadows. The crop left the tail of the bird touching the edge of the frame creating some tension. It is sharp.   Posted: 03/09/2019 10:36:12

Abhijeet, a lovely interesting action shots that tells an amusing story. I agree that the bright background is distracting. As is the banana - it depends what you want to do with theimage: I think Nature Section Competition rules forbid this, but not PID Section.   Posted: 03/09/2019 12:18:31

This is a really good Nature shot: one apparently trying to swallow, and the other escaping with the meal. Both are in focus which makes this photo so good. I assume you were shooting in burst mode with your D750. What do you mean by FL-300? Is that what you believe the focal length is after cropping?   Posted: 03/12/2019 18:26:32

Abhijeet, I agree with all of the comments of the others, It is a nice nature image with interesting subjects. My only other comment is that the tail of the bird on the left converges with the edge of the frame so if you have any room on the left edge, I would create more room for it. Well done. Thanks for all feedbacks. Incorporated some while entering the image in Salons. Good news is, getting some acceptances against this work.   Posted: 03/27/2019 09:27:27

An action shot with a story is always great! I am impressed with how well you lifted the exposure from the shadows. The colors in this image suggest a very different location from what I usually see.

This is a pretty big world and some creatures have a limited homeland. It is fun to see these birds.
