About the Image(s)

I took this picture while hiking last week in the Eastern Sierra just north of Mt Whitney. The constant challenge is the range of luminance: snow to dark evergreens. And yes, that is my dog; in National Forests dogs are permitted to be off-leash. Lake elevation is 10,569’ and elevation of mountains approx. 12,500’

Nikon D750, 24-120mm f/4.0) at 28mm f/10, ISO 800, 1/800 sec. Hand held.

PP in Lightroom: color corrected; used Clarity, Contrast and De-haze to make the mountains stand out better. Minor cropping.

A beautiful scene you captured. LR adjustments worked well. I actually like the original composition better, but not an expert on landscape. Nice dog. Bruce   Posted: 06/08/2018 16:54:18

Bruce, I believe the original is better of the lake and mountains. The bushes on the lower left and right bothered me, leading to their elimination and the resulting crop. - Kent

Kent, I appreciate your crop. Without it, I wouldn't have had the pleasure in seeing your mountain-hiking dog!. I also think the reflection is better in the cropping. Back in the 50's I lived in the San Francisco Bay area and spent a lot of time hiking in the Sierra. Great Memory!   Posted: 06/10/2018 17:02:49

Kent, beautiful landscape. Its very sharp, the colors are well balanced, the composition after the crop improved with less distraction, and of course, made your dog more prevalent in the image.   Posted: 06/11/2018 09:16:04

Beautiful landscape with a cute dog. Sometime the foreground elements add some story to your work. This is one of the case. Colors are quite natural and I liked the reflections on the water. For me, crop is just right.   Posted: 06/29/2018 06:02:56
