Scrub Jay at Mesa Verde by Mike Patterson

November 2020 - Scrub Jay at Mesa Verde

About the Image(s)

We were in Mesa Verde National Park in mid-October. While stopped for a picnic lunch, we were entertained by this Scrub Jay who kept fluttering around from tree to tree. I grabbed my camera and started snapping away, using my Canon 7D and 300mm lens. This was my favorite, since it showed some action. I like how it has the one wing stretched out while perched on the side of a juniper tree. Shot at an ISO of 800 at 1/1250 second. I had to use a higher ISO due to the large amount of shade.

What a lovely bird. I like the composition of overall image and the center view of the bird. Even it's eye is full of animation. Great capture.   Posted: 11/19/2020 17:46:57
